The Remorque: More Than a Ride, It's a Living Heritage

For decades, the distinctive putter of the remorque (tuk tuk) has been the soundtrack to Phnom Penh's streets. More than just a mode of transport, these iconic three-wheelers are rolling pieces of Cambodian history and community pillars. At Bong Tuk Tuk, we don't just offer rides; we strive to keep this vital cultural heritage alive. Maintaining these machines is a labour of love and a significant investment, ensuring they remain roadworthy and safe. Why do we commit to this? Because the value of a remorque goes far beyond metal and engine—it's about preserving the soul of the city and investing directly in the people who give it life.

The Community Engine: Your Fare Fuels Local Lives

In an era dominated by global app-based services like Grab, PassApp, and TaDa, the remorque stands apart. These large platforms operate on a corporate model, where a significant portion of your fare goes to distant shareholders and complex algorithms.

The Bong Tuk Tuk difference is simple:

  • 100% Community Investment: When you book with us, your payment goes directly to the driver and their family.

  • Empowering Individuals: We connect you with independent owner-operators, not contracted gig-workers. Your support pays for school fees, groceries, and local business.

  • A Circular Economy: Our drivers live in the communities they serve. The money they earn is reinvested right here in Phnom Penh.

Your Local Expert on Three Wheels

Forget sterile, silent rides. A Bong Tuk Tuk driver is your gateway to the real Phnom Penh.

  • Decades of Knowledge: Our drivers have navigated these roads for years. They know the best local restaurants tourists miss, the most vibrant hidden markets, and the perfect time to see key sights.

  • Flexible & Personalised Service: Unlike rigid apps, you can book your remorque in advance and hire by the hour or the day for a seamless, unhurried experience.

  • Experience Phnom Penh Through a Local's Eyes: Get authentic recommendations, hear personal stories, and discover the city's rhythm.

The Human Connection: What EVs and Cars Can't Offer

The magic of a remorque ride is in the interaction. You're not sealed in a silent, air-conditioned pod. You're part of the street—feeling the breeze, hearing the sounds, and engaging in genuine conversation. You can easily point out a stop, ask a question, or share a laugh with your driver. This open-air, face-to-face experience is irreplaceable. Electric vehicles (EVs) and standard taxis provide privacy but create a barrier; a remorque ride creates a connection between visitor and local, fostering understanding and memorable moments.

Tuk Tuk, Remorque, or "Onion"? Clearing the Confusion

We know it can be confusing!

  • Remorque (or "Tuk Tuk"): This is the classic, cabin-style motorcycle trailer where passengers sit in a covered carriage pulled by a motorbike. It is the iconic symbol of Cambodia. This is the traditional vehicle our service, Bong Tuk Tuk, proudly offers.

  • "Onion" (or Auto Rickshaw): A smaller, three-wheeled enclosed vehicle where the driver sits in front and passengers in the back. It's common in India and becoming more visible but is not the traditional Cambodian remorque.

Tuk Tuk (General Term): Internationally, "tuk tuk" is used for all auto rickshaws. In Cambodia, it's often used interchangeably with remorque.
